OOC Questions

Q: What is Starsand?
A:
Starsand is a small, close-knit roleplay community with a focus on telling a singular story. In other words, it is a small roleplay game with a heavy emphasis on plot. It is also invite only, but invites can easily be obtained by existing players.

Q: What is the pacing?
A:
We are a slow-paced game most of the time, though we do tend to get faster around the start and end of big plot events. It is helpful to join the Discord or keep up on Plurk, so that you know when the other players are speeding through discoveries.

Q: What is the game calendar like?
A:
Starsand is no longer going on a 1-to-1 IRL to IC calendar. Instead, each day will go up as a separate log and players will keep that day's activities confined to said log. Daily logs are most likely going to go up every 1 to 2 weeks, depending on traction.

Q: Who is the mod?
A:
That's me! Berri! [plurk.com profile] taiyakinonaku Right now, I am the solo plot mod. However, players may be volunteering to help me with game upkeep.

Q: Does the plot have any trigger warnings?
A:
Yes. The main story involves abused child, manipulation, toxic relationships, and human experimentation.

Character Questions

Q: What characters can I play in Starsand?
A:
We welcome canon and original characters equally. You may only play a canon OC if you have permission from an existing cast. We no longer allow duplicates. You may not roleplay real life people or personas.

Q: Is there an age limit for characters?
A:
We prefer that played characters have a mental maturity of 10 years or older.

Q: Can I play a CRAU?
A:
Yes! Please be mindful of things such as CR opt-outs from canon characters- Always ask before knowing someone. Powers from CRAUs may also be kept, so long as they can physically carry over and exist in another setting.

Q: What kinds of nerfs exist in Starsand?
A:
Characters cannot have unlimited inventory and can only bring 5 items from home into Starsand. Powers must be nerfed to the extent that all played characters are weaker than the setting's kami. Otherwise, we try to be flexible and find ways to maintain canon abilities.

Q: My character is kami / godlike in their canon. Can they have the same status here?
A:
Yes and no. They can rebuild their following in Starsand and gradually regain their old strength, but this will take months in-game to accomplish.

Q: My character can see ghosts. Can they see spirits?
A:
Yes. Characters who have a sixth sense or similar ability can apply that to the setting's spirits.

Arrival Questions

Q: How does my character arrive in Starsand?
A:
At present, characters will have a strange dream where a glowing girl asks them to come to another world in order to save it. This girl, Ariel, will then give them a red key. By using said key on any door, the characters can willingly come to Starsand in order to help out.

Characters will then arrive in the Shrine of Spacetime. They go down a long, floating staircase and exit through a door at the bottom. This will take to the interior of the shrine.

During the daily logs, there will sometimes be a prompt for a different arrival method. Be sure to check the log and see if the more recent method is more interesting to you.

Q: How do locals react to my characters' arrival?
A:
The locals will be shocked when characters enter the Spacetime Shrine. They are cautiously friendly and willing to answer questions, but don't provide much help. The most they can offer is to point the characters to the Shrine of Love, where they can get assigned a house. They call other worlders "Fallen Stars."

Setting Questions

Q: What kind of city is Starsand?
A:
Starsand City is a modern (2020s,) city with a slight magitech twist. Most things are powered by spirit magic, and the city itself is filled with glowing wisps called spirits. Their magic gives the city a pastel hue and gemstones are a common decor element.

The city is also made of five levels, which are stacked on top of one other. Each level has its own artificial sky and has a few miles radius. It is possible to access each level by using glass elevators, with five of said elevators existing in the city. Most activity takes place on the top level.

Q: Where do characters live?
A:
At present, characters will have the option of living in one of the many premade houses. These houses are being loaned to the 'Fallen Stars' in exchange for keeping each House Spirit company. These spirits are attached to the houses that they maintain and use their magic for everything from repairs, to furniture, to heating the water. Housing Spirits are happy to do so in exchange for something called starling and attention.

Q: What kind of transportation is available?
A:
Starsand has a free tram system that connects the neighborhoods of the top level, many bicycle paths, and a few cars. However, cars aren't very common: People are more likely to have electric bicycles than a car. Transportation is free and it's easy to get between locations.

Q: Do characters go to school?
A:
Not at the moment. The citizens are treating Fallen Stars as a temporary issue and don't think they'll be here long enough to benefit from transferring into the local schools.

Q: What is the currency & how is it earned?
